The first Tulum Sport Festival was a great success!!!!
Kiteboarding Free Style , Paragliding, Beach Volley , Music and a lot of nice people have been the components of success of this sport festival.
Marco Cristofanelli, owner of Extreme Control Kiteboarding and Diving School was thinking for a long time to have an event in Tulum to show the beauty of Tulum and to encourage more and more people to make Tulum a great kiting spot and mellow atmosphere.

With the help of the staff of Extreme Control and owners of Heco en Playa, Erika Hernandez and Oracio Poza, the idea became a reality. Day after day, more and more people, became involved in the event such as all the kiteboarding schools of the Riviera Maya like Ikarus, Kiteboarding Cozumel, IKS, all the beach volley people from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, the municipality of Tulum and all the sponsors who participated. They all made the TULUM SPORT FESTIVAL a really successful event.
THANKS TO EVERY ONE!!!!
The three-day event was an escalation of emotions. The first day was a mellow welcome day with everyone hanging out on the beach under the tents offered by Red Bull, Superior and Coca Cola and around the competition spot for the kiteboarding and the beach volley. The wind was really light most of the day so our friends Heriberto and Miguel started flying over our heads with their paragliders. They took some fantastic aerial shots of the event. Thanks, guys
By the end of the afternoon almost everything was set, many kiters were already hanging out on the beach and the wind started blowing around 15 knots. In just a few minutes more than 15 kites were dancing in the sky like beautiful butterflies!!!
At night we were ready to celebrate the first day with a great party at Mezzanine!!!! Everyone enjoyed great music and energetic dancing until the wee hours of the morning.
The second day started with a breakfast meeting in Villas Akumal with all the media and the representatives of the Tulum municipality. We explained the goals of the TULUM SPORT FESTIVAL and after that we raced to El Paraiso to get the activities underway for the Beach Volley competition.
In the late afternoon the wind started blowing and every kiter jumped in the water to get a little action. Richard Hallman photographer of Kiteboarding Magazine was there waiting to take some great shots.
Than after breaking down the equipment we met again at the El Paraiso for the bonfire beach Party with the great DJ Chain.
The Sunday started with some Beach Volley activities coordinated by Renzo while all the kitebaording crew got ready for the Free Style competition. We started by setting the line-up so we would be ready as soon as the wind started blowing. Around three in the afternoon the wind was good enough to start the competition so the judges called the competitors and the show started !!!!
As we got deeper into the competition, the tricks become more and more technical with awesome kite loops and great handle passes!!!!
At the end of the day Sean Farley, Jon Van Malsen, Miguel Manzanilla, Raquel Arrollo, Noah Simons, Manuel Agun and Francisco Chan were throwing their best tricks to try to take the lead position. The crowd was awestruck and the competitors gave an awesome show. By the end, Jon Van Malsen was #1 , Sean Farley #2, Noah Simons #3. We are very thankful that all the competitors made the effort to come and join us for the event. Thanks to you all for making the event happen and showing us all what you can do with a little passion.
We already invite you to the TULUM SPORT FESTIVAL 2008 !!!!!!
