We have a unique philosophy here at Extreme Control in that we concentrate on teaching the basics in safety and kite control so that you have a solid and safe foundation as you continue through the sport of kiteboarding. Our classes focus on teaching how to control the kite, which is the most important aspect in learning the sport. We then start working with the board, the water re-launch, the self- rescue and tools to prevent problems. The sport is extreme because it can be potentially dangerous and the most important aspect is maintaining safety so you can continue to enjoy the sport.

The wind is not as consistent in Tulum as in other places in the world but you cannot beat the scenery. It is hard to confirm how many hours you will be able to take as it depends entirely on the wind conditions.
How to get started....It takes around 6 hours to learn basic kite control, but it will depend on your ability on how fast you will start riding and it really depends on the wind how many hours you will be able to take. Our classes focus on teaching you how to control the kite, which is the most important thing to be able to start working with the board, the water re-launch, the self- rescue and general safety.

We usually do 3 hours the first day, beginning with flying a trainer kite on the beach (If you already know how to fly it we will skip this part) and then the assembling of all the equipment of an inflatable 4-line kite and ending with flying the kite and practicing kite control on the beach. The next two to 6 hours we suggest doing private lessons so you get one-on-one instruction and are able to advance faster. You will keep practicing kite control and start bodydragging (having the kite pull you through the water without a board) until you demonstrate you are ready for the board. The time it takes to master kite control and be ready to start going on the board varies from person to person and depends on wind conditions.

After 8 to 10 hours of instruction, the best thing is to keep practicing with your own kite. Now you know you want to keep going with the sport it is time to buy your own equipment. If you want to book ahead we suggest booking the first 3 hours with a 50 usd deposit or the full payment through Paypal plus the 5% fee.  Our group lessons never exceed 2 students per kite in order to offer you the best service. After the first four hours you will be ready to book your private lessons. The lessons after the full intro can be paid in 1, 2 or 3 hour blocks per day. The Full Intro Kiteboarding Program is the first step into the kiteboarding world. This 4 hour introductory course begins with a complete explanation of the principles of the "wind window." During this lesson, you will have fun learning to pilot a trainer kite in the "power zone" on land. After demonstrating the required skills, it is time to be introduced to the four-line inflatable kite. Here, you will learn how to set the equipment, the bar and its safety mechanisms, how to launch and land the kite, and techniques in piloting the kite. Now, you will start to experience the power of a four-line kite. We suggest doing the full intro with the group rate as there is a lot of theory and demonstration. The goal of the Intermediate Kiteboarding Program is to use the theory and skills learned in the Full Intro Kiteboarding Program to advance your control of the four-line kite. Here, you will learn to pilot the kite while on land and in the water. During the water instruction, you will learn how to use the power of the kite to propel yourself through the water known as a "body drag." You will then learn the piloting skills needed to start getting on the board. You can choose the amount of hours you need depending on your skill advancement. It usually takes 4 to 6 hours after the full intro to obtain good control of the kite and understand the theory of getting on the board. Then, it varies from person to person how fast you start riding!!
