20 DAYS IN BRASIL E-mail

20 DAYS IN BRASIL

SO HERE WE ARE, AFTER 20 DAYS I CAN SAY I'M HAVING A GREAT TIME KITING AND ENJOYING THE BEAUTY OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY, WHICH IS BRASIL.
AT THE MOMENT I'M IN JERICOACOARA AFTER HAVING BEEN IN CUMBUCO FOR 13 DAYS AT THE GUEST HOUSE  WITH MARIO, A REALLY COOL GUY THAT OWN THIS NICE AND COMFORTABLE POSADA.

IN CUMBUCO I HAVE BEEN HANGING OUT WITH GABRIEL AND CARLA IN DURO BEACH  WHERE I MET MANY FRIENDS, I WILL NOT SAY ANY NAMES TO AVOID TO FORGET SOME ONE, BUT I REALLY HAD A GREAT TIME KITING WITH THEM EVERY DAY AND RIDING FROM THE TOWN TO THE LAGOON DO CAUIPE,  AND THEN COMING BACK ON THE BUGGY . AS WELL THERE WAS THE KPWT IN CUMBUCO SO I MEET THE DOMINICAN REPUBBLIC  TEAM WITH ALEX SOTO, ARIEL, LUIS  AND ALVARO FROM BEST KITEBOARDING  AND WE HAD GREAT TIME,  THE WIND WAS GOOD 16 TO 18 KNOTS WITH 3 DAYS OF 20  TO 22 KNOTS .....SWEET..
THAN ALESSANDRO, FRANCESCO AND DAVID ARRIVED AND WE DECIDED TO GO TO DISCOVER JERICOACOARA, AROUND 300KM NORTH OF FORTALEZA, IN FORTALEZA  THERE IS THE INTERNATIONAL AIR PORT.WE KNEW JERI WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BEAUTIFUL PLACE WITH A LOT OF WIND .........SO WE RENTED A 4X4, LITTLE BIT EXPENSIVE, BUT IT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE..TRUST ME..

WE GOT THE PERFECT DAY TO DRIVE; NO WIND AND A BIG HANG OVER. SO WE HEADED TO JERI.

IMMEDIATELY WITH THE FIRST IMPACT WITH THE SAND WE GOT STUCK ....NO WAY...WELL IT TOOK 10 MIN TO GET OUT OF IT AND WAS A GOOD TRAINING BY THE END ....A GOOD WAY TO REVIEW  THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES BEFORE YOU GET ON THE  REAL BEACH.

THE REST OF THE TRIP WAS PERFECT WE STOPPED IN PARACURU FOR A LITTLE SNACK AND A COPPLE OF COLD BEERS ....REALLY COLD HERE..... WIND WAS STILL LIGHT SO WE  KEPT GOING AND WE ARRIVED IN JERI RIGHT BEFORE THE FAMOUS SUNSET ON THE BIG DUNE.
IT WAS INCREDIBLE AND YOU HAVE TO BE THERE TO FEEL THE SENSATION, YOU ARE STANDING  70 MT ABOVE THE OCEAN WITH THE SUN RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU AND THE WIND BLOWING AT 30 KNOTS  SPRAYING THE SAND AWAY.
THE TOWN  OF JERI IS BEAUTIFUL AND  SMALL WITH NO CARS AROUND ONLY BUGGY AND SOME JEEPS,  SAND EVERY WHERE  NICE, SMALL AND RUSTIC BUT REALLY CLEAN  POSADAS AND RESTAURANTS  ALL AROUND.
THE  NEXT DAY AFTER A NICE BREAKFAST WE WENT TO PREA JUST 20 MIN SOUTH ,WHERE THE WIND CONDITIONS ARE PERFECT AND WITH NICE WAVES, SO WE STOPPED AT NATIVO KITE SCHOOL, A SMALL PLACE WITH A RESTAURANT, NO  PEOPLE  AND A PERFECT 25 KNOTS OF WIND !!!! IN FEW MIN ALE  AND FRA WERE IN THE WATER AND I GOT SOME TIME TO TAKE SOME NICE SHOTS OF THEME, THAN I JUMPED IN THE WATER TOO.
AT THE END OF THE DAY WE LAUNCHED OURSELVES AND HEADED ON  A DOWNWINDER FROM PREA TO JERI DURING SUNSET.......I THINK THE BEST I'VE EVER DONE, ALL THE COASTLINE WAS FULL OF WAVES WITH THE DUNES AS A BACKGROUND.  BEAUTIFUL.  THEN WE ARRIVED TO PEDRA FURADA,   AND RIDING  AROUND THE HILL THAT PROTECTS JERI FROM THE STRONG WINDS TO FINALLY REACH THE INCREDIBLE VIEW OF THE DUNES IT IS REALLY HARD TO DESCRIBE THE EMOTION YOU FEEL WHEN YOU RIDE THERE.
THEN AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF RELAXING IN THE NICE HOTEL, THE AQUA CHILI , WE WERE READY TO GO OUT FOR DINNER AND DRINK SOME BEERS AND CAPIRINA, TO BE READY TO GO KITING THE NEXT DAY.
ALL OF THE REST OF THE DAYS WERE GREAT WITH 30 KNOTS OF WIND AND A LOT OF FUN DRIVING AROUND AND DISCOVERING MANY COOL SPOT LIKE LAGOA AZUL JUST 10 MIN FAR FROM PREA, LAGUINHO DO TORTA REALLY NICE  SPOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DUNE BEHIND THE LITTLE FISHING TOWN OF TATAJUBA
ALESSANDRO IMPROVED ALL OF HIS KITING SKILLS A LOT BY THE END OF THE WEEK JUMPING 7 MT OR MORE AND DOWN LOOPING THE KITE WITH 30 KNOT TO CHANGE DIRECTION, FRANCESCO HAS BEEN GREAT, PERFORMING HIS FIRST JUMP AND ENDING RIDING TOE-SIDE !!!
NOW EVERY ONE LEFT AND I HAVE DECIDED TO STAY ANOTHER 2 WEEKS IN JERI...IT IS TOO NICE TO GO AWAY FROM HERE
AT THE END OF OCTOBER I WILL GO DOWN TO PARACURU TO MEET WITH A CLIENT THAT HAS BOOKED A 3-DAY DOWNWINDER WITH ME THANKS TO KAREN FROM OZONE TRAVEL AND THEN I WILL DO A FULL KITEBOARDING LESSON IN CUMBUCO
SO I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE STORY AND  YOU WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE

Cabarete Trip July 2008 E-mail

Cabarete Trip July 2008

Well, we just returned from another great trip with Extreme Control. After the beautiful adventure in the North of the Yucatan Peninsula we decided it was time again to go looking for the wind. So, we decided to meet up with some pals in Cabarete in the Domenic Republic and explore the island.ready-to-cabarete-.jpg

cabarete-3.jpg

Me (Marco), Enzo and Ermanno were ready to go. We were in need of some wind so we packed up and were on our way...............
No questions, no priority...... except the wind

The first week was ok, the wind was not the best due to a tropical storm but we were able to go out with the 12 meter and have some fun. We had great time in and out of the water. The last 2 days the wind started to pick up around 18 to 20 knots so I decided to extend my trip for a week longer........to windy to go home. Ermanno and Enzo couldn't extend the trip so they left me behind to play for a week longer.
The same day they left I met Angel Rojas and Martin Mancini from Cancun. COOL!!!!

For me it proved to be really important to stay on longer as I was able to participate in the Best Dealer Meeting for the presentation of the 2009 equipment, new design for the Waroo and the Nemesis and all the new boards and the new harness. Every thing was super cool and I already got the new 2009 Nemesis HP 12 mt, great for the wind in Tulum!!! It is a really cool kite, they re-did the technology of the LE too.cabarete-2.jpg

The wind was sick the whole second week blowing every day 20 + knots. The spots are awesome but really busy and no rules at all. Kites fly away all the time and entanglements are the norm here so nobody really complains about it. The local pro riders are completely crazy with big air and insane kite loops at 40 feet high. It is truly an incredible show but not the best to ride close to, sometimes kites crash just few meters away from you...... banggggg .......
The waves over the reef are nice but the swell was not that big. Perfect waves to just cruise and have fun on.

The great thing about Cabarete is the wind blows daily from 12am to 7 pm, all the hotels are a few steps from the beach, you can start kiting in Bozo Beach,( the main beach) and do a downwinder to Kite Beach or at Encuentro and come back with the MOTO CONCHO ( the local transportation)
The only bad thing about Cabarete is that the spots are really crowded, too many kites in the air, too many students without control, too many crazy riders jumping and crashing everywhere close to the beach. But what a show!

If you are there you really need no meet Elvis to make your trip perfect , he is a relly cool local guy, he will help you in every thing but really every things you need for the entire trip, trasportation to every where you need to go, suggestions where to kite, eat and to where stay and he will assist you on the beach to set your kite and all your equipment!!! to contact him send an e/mail at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it in spanish or just let us know and we will contact him.
Final comments:

Marco Cristofanelli

Cool place to go, people are really cool and friendly, food is good do not miss trying MAMA GUANA the local drink, don't miss riding with the local MOTO CONCHO..... super fun, local riders are really crazy and really good, The wind is great but I think it is not the best spot for beginners. Its just too busy everywhere.

Martin Mancini

What can i say that hasn't been said about this majestic place. Well, one point that needs to be addressed about this exotic destination is that the white man has no chance at hooking up with white ladies, thats right! our ladies prefer the dark side over the force. So Luke, were fucked... Unless we ourselves fall to the force of the dark side.

Riviera Maya 2008

The PKRA world tour cpkra1.jpgould not have come to the Riviera Maya at a more perfect time. After a pretty weak start to the windy season the wind gods decided to bless us with perfect strong side shore winds for the competition. As many kiters in the area know there was a high chance that the winds would not come but with unbelievable luck we enjoyed several days of great winds and an awesome event. The best of the best came to show the rest of us what the sport is made of. With handle passes, kite loops and powerful wake-style tricks the crowd enjoyed a spectacular show.
In honor of the event, Extreme Control hosted four days of demos with the best name brands and professional riders. Extreme Control could not have done it without the support of local businesses.

We hope to continue to have the opportunity to have this sport be a part of the Tulum community.

With support, this noninvasive, wind propelled art can continue to be a visual attraction for beach-goers as well as an environmentally friendly hobby for enthusiasts.
